Course Structure
The Neko-Bu-Kai Karate Course combines a traditional training method with targeted athletic conditioning and preparatory exercises aimed at improving strength, flexibility, coordination, and reflexes.
Each level of learning (grade) requires the development of specific skills, progressing from simpler to more advanced through a path that connects body and mind. This journey begins with the study of fundamental techniques (kihon), allowing students to focus solely on physical movement, and gradually moves toward forms (kata) and sparring (kumite), which also demand the cultivation of intellectual abilities such as concentration and emotional control.
The course is structured to provide each student with the appropriate training programme based on their experience level, developing the necessary skills to progress to the next stage.
KARATE SCHOOL
The Shotokan Karate School Neko-Bu-Kai promotes Karate as a traditional approach to physical training for both mind and body. By studying techniques that engage the entire body, consistently training hands and feet, and employing specific breathing methods, it is possible to develop mental focus and cultivate the body to live in good health.

KARATE-DO
It is a theoretical and practical approach to the development of both mind and body, aligned with the physical laws of the universe. Once harmony is achieved within oneself, and then with others, one gains the ability to master the mind and control emotions through a process of self-awareness. This journey is called the Dō (道): the way of knowledge and of the self.

Core Study Areas
The Neko-Bu-Kai Shotokan Karate Course offers a wide range of study elements, beginning with the three fundamental pillars: kihon, kata, and kumite. These include striking techniques (ate waza or atemi), blocking techniques (uke waza), kicking techniques (geri waza), punching techniques (tsuki waza), throwing techniques (nage waza), and falling techniques (ukemi waza).
The curriculum also includes the art of Tuite, an ancient form of combat based on joint locks and the manipulation of kyusho (pressure points), which was originally part of traditional Karate training.
KIHON
The practice of fundamental techniques, which are then applied in kumite and developed more intricately in kata. The primary purpose of kihon is to enhance harmony between the right and left sides of the body, as well as between movement and breathing, thereby learning to balance technique and power. Through this process, it is possible to achieve a state of inner harmony that helps reduce both physical and mental stress.
KATA
It merges the elements of the two previous practices into a single discipline, as kata require the consecutive execution of a series of techniques, imagining simultaneous combat against multiple opponents attacking from different directions. The study of kata is very thorough and involves not only learning the form itself but also its practical application (bunkai) in real combat scenarios, including forms of street fighting.
KUMITE
Sparring, which by its nature involves the presence of a partner acting as a real opponent, provides the opportunity to engage and harmonise with the other through a constant exchange of techniques. It teaches control of breathing, mind-body coordination, and emotions. This leads to respect and understanding of the opponent, enhancing the ability to relate to others. Kumite sessions are supported by specific training with striking pads and very light sparring aimed at improving reflexes and anticipating the opponent’s moves.
